Chowder

He looks cute until he bugs you to take him outside at 6:30am in the bitter cold of winter and he won't go.

Ingredients

Winter Solstice Double IPA

I brewed a double IPA this morning with a single grain, Floor Malted Maris Otter and two hops, Belma and Amarillo (both from hop farms in Washington). The yeast is from the Pacific Northwest. It finished at 1.088 specific gravity, so it's going to be a big beer when it is ready. Before it were brewed two extra pale ales, one with Belma and the other with Amarillo. It's a hop experiment, really.

The first beer I brewed was a Black IPA over the Vernal Equinox weekend, so this is fitting that I'm doing a blonde double IPA for the Winter Solstice. Batch # 41!

Status Check

Pic 1 - Belgian Pale Clarity/Color, this recipe is a keeper.
Pic 2 - Winter Wheat after 9-10 weeks. This will be kegged early January. The smell is fantastic!
Pic 3 - I wrote this Bohemian Pilsner off a month ago. Somehow it has turned a corner and clawed it's way back to become one of my best results. Totally re-ignited my interest in lagering.

How can you tell Wesley has had more than his share of Peppermint Ice Cream?

Last day of the Thanksgiving weekend - English Brown Ale

It's Sunday, Krista is at work and I figured I'd get my brew day done early while it's still pretty quiet around here.

I'm brewing a North England Style Brown Ale today, here are some details:

Grain:
Warminster Floor Malted Maris Otter
Simpson's Dark Crystal Malt
Organic Chocolate Malt

Hops:
UK East Kent Goldings

Yeast:
West Yorkshire English Ale Yeast

This is the simplest English Brown Ale recipe I could find, I changed the hops and the yeast. Next week I will brew the English IPA and an English Oatmeal Stout recipe.
